Nor'easter
They waded out on tip-toe
elbows
out, as if into a rising
icy sea.
And along the plowed driveway
beneath the evergreens' patient
sag
piles of snow reached the brother's belt
and the girl's chest
and stones caught up
in
the drifts
got stuck
here and there
sometimes in crooked pairs
like God's eyes
watching
their every move.
